BARRIER FREE DESIGN
AGE IN PLACE
LIFETIME HOME DESIGN
While the terms above may focus on a particular application or user group, they all share a common intent: to design space that is inclusive and responsive.
If you are like most North Americans over the age of 45, you will want to continue to live in a familiar environment throughout your maturing years. According to statistics, older home owners overwhelmingly prefer to age in place – This means living in one’s home safely, independently and comfortably regardless of age or ability level.
Functionality is the core value of what I do as a designer.
I combine my past experience in commercial design and current business in residential design… and work to create “lifetime” or “age-in-place” spaces that are relevant to my clients needs and aesthetics. I believe that smart design and planning, combined with smart building direction and practices, will result in a great home for the long run.
In addition to my knowledge of the commercial requirements of Accessible and Barrier Free Design, I have recently become a Certified Age In Place Specialist through the National Association of Home Builders. It is important to me that our living spaces reflect the functional needs of the homeowner and that they are beautiful places to call home.
